Turn hydrogen crystals into usable fuel

The ATMOSFAR hydrogen refinery converts solid hydrogen crystals into the liquid fuel your Wasp needs. In the demo, getting it working means deploying a crafting table from your Camp Hub, making the refinery, and loading the crystals into it. That matters because a repaired aircraft still cannot take you far with an empty tank.

The procedure below follows recorded demo player experience. The developer's official Wasp fuel and maintenance guide confirms the underlying crystal-to-liquid-hydrogen process, but the demo's recipe and interface should not be assumed unchanged in Early Access.

Build and deploy the demo refinery

  1. Set down your Camp Hub and open its equipment interface.
  2. Deploy the Crafting Table, then use the table itself to open the crafting menu.
  3. Find Hydrogen Refinery under the camp equipment options.
  4. Make any missing components, then craft the refinery.
  5. Take the completed equipment out and place it with the camp.

In Aegir Builds & Beats' demo player experience, the recipe was read as two cogs, one circuit board, and two pipes. The player could craft the cogs and pipes but retrieved the circuit board from a nearby facility. Follow your displayed recipe if a later build differs.

Do not confuse selecting equipment in the Camp Hub with crafting its missing components. Another demo player initially could not interact because they were standing on the wrong side of the crafting table; moving around it exposed the usable side.

Load crystals, collect fuel, and refuel the Wasp

Open the deployed refinery and move hydrogen crystals into its input. The demo recordings show the camp connecting equipment by cable and the refinery beginning to produce fuel. Once fuel is available, transfer it into your personal fuel supply, then use the Wasp's fuel-transfer interaction to replenish the aircraft.

Treat those as separate operations:

  • Crystals are the refinery's raw material.
  • Liquid hydrogen is the processed fuel.
  • A fuel canister is an inventory item that can add fuel to your personal supply.
  • Fuel in your personal supply can then be transferred to the Wasp.

On an Xbox controller, a community report from the demo says that double-pressing A transfers items between inventory and containers or refineries. The thread's author had been trying Y without success. That is a version-specific report, so check the prompts in your build rather than treating it as a universal binding.

Check power before blaming the recipe

If nothing is happening, check that you crafted and placed the refinery, loaded crystals, and have electricity available. The developer describes the portable camp as a central hub distributing power to its connected components. An empty output alone does not tell you which of those steps is missing.

Cloud Cruiser refineries are a related but separate installation. The developer's alpha-era Cloud Cruiser explanation describes electrically powered refineries feeding liquid hydrogen into fuel tanks, whose cooling also needs electricity. That does not mean the demo's small camp refinery requires you to build a nuclear reactor or a ship-sized tank first.

Avoid attaching an invented processing time or guaranteed fuel yield to the demo recipe. The useful milestone is seeing the input process and the fuel supply increase.

FAQ

What does the hydrogen refinery make?

It converts hydrogen crystals into liquid hydrogen fuel. Wasps use that fuel for flight.

Do I need a crafting table first?

Yes, in the recorded demo workflow. Deploy the table from the Camp Hub, use it to craft the refinery, and then place the refinery.

Why will Y not put crystals into the refinery on my controller?

A demo community answer identifies double-pressing A as the transfer action. Confirm the current on-screen controls, because Y was also used for packing camp equipment in that discussion.

Is the Cloud Cruiser refinery the same setup as the demo camp?

They share the fuel-conversion purpose, but the Cloud Cruiser has its own electricity and fuel-storage systems. Do not mix those ship requirements into the portable demo camp procedure.
